This article addresses the importance of self-directed learning in online distance education, highlighting its role in developing student autonomy. This approach allows for personalized learning, clear goal setting, constructive feedback, and access to diverse resources, which fosters skills such as self-assessment, self-confidence, and motivation. In this model, students cease to be passive recipients and become active agents who research, reflect, and apply acquired knowledge. Although learning is the student's responsibility, external factors such as the support of teachers and educational institutions are essential to creating interactive spaces that motivate and foster collaborative learning. Furthermore, the use of Information and Communication Technologies drives innovations in educational processes, provided they are supported by specialized pedagogical environments and appropriate teaching resources, which strengthens teaching and learning at all educational levels in the digital age.
