Digital audiovisual resources based on historical films for teaching World History

Abstract

The research aimed to enrich teaching tools and move beyond rote memorization in the teaching of World History. Its purpose was to create digital audiovisual resources in the form of short videos, based on selected scenes from historical films, with the intention of strengthening the understanding of processes, social actors, and conflicts from different eras. To this end, film fragments with pedagogical and historical value were selected, analyzed, and transformed into short resources using digital tools such as Canva and CapCut, with the use of cell phones, laptops, and tablets. Thirty Social Sciences students from the "Salomé Ureña" Higher Institute of Teacher Training, Emilio Prud'Homme Campus, in Santiago, Dominican Republic, participated in the project. These students, enrolled in the History of Civilization I, II, III, and IV courses, gave the initiative positive feedback. The experience allowed for questioning the historical accuracy of various film representations, contrasting audiovisual narratives with academic knowledge, and promoting more dynamic, meaningful learning that is in line with current educational demands.
