Abstract

The present study aims at understanding the psychosocial profile of students pursuing careers teachers who, in addition, are mothers. This is an in-depth study involving 28 students who are mothers and are currently enrolled in the 2nd year of the Faculty of Language and Literature of a Higher Institute for Teacher Training of Governance, Province of Mendoza, Argentina. These women assume roles of concurrent mothers, students, and many times, the workers, which generates a significant amount of concurrent responsibilities which could come into conflict. Analyzed the psychosocial profile in terms of level of assertiveness, coping strategies used and the development of resilient behavior, in both these factors could be linked with its decision to continue studying and academic achievement. We used a methodological design qualitativequantitative, combining quantitative techniques (closed questions and psychometric tests) and qualitative tools (lexicometric analysis and free association of words). The results suggest the importance of working in the construction of psycho-social skills (assertiveness, coping strategies and positive behaviors resilient) that allow the students to continue and complete their academic paths with success.
