Teaching English for tourism purposes can become a pedagogical challenge, which is why constant improvement is necessary to master the theoretical and practical knowledge of this discipline. The objective of this article is to present an improvement strategy for the upgrading of the professional performance of English teachers in the tourism training system. Inquiries such as modeling, systematization, systemic-structural-functional, observation, survey and documentary review were used. The results of the diagnosis were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics. An improvement strategy was designed based on the problems identified in the diagnosis, which was supported by several sciences such as philosophy, sociology, psychology, pedagogy and Advanced Education. It went through five stages: diagnosis, sensitization, planning, execution and evaluation. It included improvement alternatives that provided positive results for the performance of the English teachers involved: stimulation of their intellectual production, strengthening/updating of knowledge, efficient use of technological means, among others.
