Abstract

Now a days, the Latin American universities´ professor are facing an enormous responsibility while  training their students. They assume the vital mission: to contribute to the strengthening of the cultural identity of their students. In spite of how much this topic has been studied, there is not a clear definition of the functional components that comprehend  Latin American cultural identity. There is also has a lack of  specific  didactic foundations that must lead the teaching of this subject. Thus, the present work sets out to reveal, in a first approximation, what these components are and how to treat them didactically in higher education, as initial results of a research project. To this end, specialized bibliographic information was collected, as well as the criteria of professors from various Cuban universities, through the systematization of lived experiences. In this way, a proposal of constituent elements that make up the Latin American cultural identity in the present is offered, along with a body of didactic demands for its treatment in the classroom.
