Oral english communicative skills in nursery students through an audio-visual repository resource

Abstract

During the English learning process for specific aims in Technical Nursing studies developed in Victoria de Girón Basic and Pre-Clinical Sciences Institute, some difficulties in oral communication were observed in first-year students. That´s why a pre-experiment project was planned to evaluate how some audio-visual digital resources could be used as a facilitator in the learning process during the English lessons and as independent tasks in the laboratory of informatics. These digital resources were got together into a model of repository that had been previously created by two Informatics experts from the same institution; all of these teaching materials were linked to nursery interests. The positive experiences given by the professors who worked with these media resources, contribute to its validation, as well as, to find a solution to the scientific didactic problem based on Vygotsky’s theories. In addition, the students´ oral English abilities were improved, it was confirmed by the final marks reached by these technical nursery students.
