THE INFLUENCE OF SUSTAINABLE CONTEXT IN THE CITIZEN FORMATION

Abstract

The World Commission on Environment and Development was formed in 1983 as an independent body from governments and the United Nations system. It was in 1984 when it met for the first time, at the urgent request of the General Assembly of that organization to establish what was called the Global Agenda for Change, with the firm conviction of establishing a "more prosperous, more just and safer future for humanity”. With this approach the "Our Common Future" report was published in 1987, which aimed at making an urgent call to the world to make decisions to conserve resources for present generations and secure them for future generations. Taking into consideration that the subject of economic development could not be separated from the issue of the environment, the Commission focused its attention on several items, which served as a frame of reference; so there are basic principles that govern nature and it is very necessary to know them. Therefore it was pointed out the importance of educating citizens aware of their environment when contributing to the development of their community without putting at risk the existing resources for generations to come.
