Educational care for students with intellectual disabilities is a priority that must be assumed by the professionals involved in their education, as well as their family members and other educational agents. In this way, the educational potential of students with special educational needs is taken advantage of, acting on the development of their personality according to the social context and its demands. The need to consolidate the ability to provide solutions to society's problems motivates the link between the University and the community through university extension, constituting community projects, one of the fundamental ways to achieve this. The objective of the essay is to describe the educational care of people with intellectual disabilities based on their link with community projects as part of the development of university extension in order to enrich the university-society relationship.
