Abstract

The present paper offers a pedagogical overview on the teaching of local history and heritage as a means to contribute to heritage education. A conceptual rationale is established, in which the ambiguity of terms such as local history and heritage is explained. The current state of art related to research, publications and didactic models on this field is also covered, as well as the different conceptions and models of local history and heritage education. In the paper, different positions in relation to local history and heritage education, as well as similarities and differences between them are expressed. The objective of this paper is to contribute to the understanding and respect of those elements.
