The teaching-learning process of English and its contribution to environmental education

The study presented is derived from a thesis option for the title of master and it addressed the issue of Environmental Education for Sustainable Development in the teaching-learning process of Integrated English Practice, in the 1st year Bachelor of Education, Foreign Languages Specialty in "Felix Varela Morales" campus at “Marta Abreu” Central University. The weaknesses and strengths of the students were identified through the application of different empirical methods: observation, survey, interview, etc. A system of communication activities was proposed and it allowed to develop in students the acquisition of the professional skills needed, from the use of texts and audiovisual materials related to environmental issues and sustainable development, which enables the acquisition of knowledge around them and stimulates their reflection, evaluation and demonstration of responsible and caring moods of action towards the environment. The implementation of the proposal found its effectiveness as a feasible way to encourage attention to the students’ Environmental Education for Sustainable Development getting encouraging results on cognitive, procedural and attitudinal components.
